The lack of things to do, cold weather, and expensive places sent us off to our next destination in record timing. Some would say that is a good thing.

Sorry about this rubbish blog entry, the next one we promise will be better! wink wink, nudge nudge! Oh, friday night tonight in Wellington, we'll try to cause some drama for you lot back home.

Much love

Then after two and a half weeks of smashing the granny out of it, we decided to get the hell out of there and get our livers back. Here are some pictures.

On our first night out in BA we started off with a gooden - Opera Bay rated as the best club (by us anyways). Named for obvious reasons that its shaped the same as the Sydney Opera House. Had to control ourselves from drinking too early as Buenos Airians only go out at about 2am.

On the next night (names of days were kind of forgotten by this point) we met up with a friend from Florianopolis who's been living in BA for 6 months or so now. We went out to Kilkenny - an Irish bar and got ourselves a good old PINT that we've been missing since the last one we had at Heathrow Airport over 3 months ago. Shortbread even managed to find himself a Guinness. Get in!

We ran out of girls for Paul...

Most mondays we ended up going down to Peurto Madera a.k.a. the waterfront for all you uncultured fools. Found an awesome place called Spell Cafe where all the waitresses were hot as were the female clientelle. Met a couple of Argentinian girls after Alex made a fool of himself ordering a Submarino. He thought it was just a cup of hot milk with a chocolate to eat, but then got told by the waitress later that you are supposed to put the chocolate in the milk like a submarine *Doh*. Mark and Paul wet themselves shortly after.

Tuesdays was Drum and Bass night, Alex was too busy reaching for the lazers to take some photos.

Wednesday we went to an 'After Office' night at Museo where they all go straight from work. Everyone was in suits and over 30. The ladies were old and hagged and the men were sweaty and sleazy. We still had fun though drinking crazy red bull stuff 'Speed' and vodka. Made us go even crazier than taking real speed.

Paul fit in well, he was sweaty and sleazy too.

At one point in the night we wanted a team photo, but couldn't find Paul. Luckily a replacement looky-likey was at hand to fill the role.

Now this one we aren't sure about. Is it a man? Is it a woman? Who knows, but Alex said she sure could tango! If only she'd put a bit more slap on...guys love it when you really gloop it on.

The girls (Michelle, Yelena and Laura) were good enough to cook us what was close enough to a English fry up as possible. We even had tea called 'Big Ben' - authentic or what?!

S8001625.jpg

Apart from this meal, every other meal was steak for breakfast (if awake), lunch and dinner. Steak is amazing here so it's just gotta be done! Hence why we are fat now. Oh, the beer too.

Mark said grace before every meal in his pope outfit:

It's been so long since we've done this, the thought of doing this blog entry is quite intimidating, there's so much to be said and so many photos to be shown. Prepare for a rocky ride of adventure and excitement. If you need to go to the toilet, go now cos here we go!

Well we arrived in Florianopolis as clueless as ever, we knew about a good hostel called Backpackers, but didn't know where it was when we got there. Popped in a cab and got to a beach that we believed it was near and asked a hotel owner where it was. He said it was 15 minutes max to get there, so we walked up hill and down dale with backpacks strapped tight like proper trekkers. After an hour of walking in the blazing heat, dripping with sweat, we found the hostel in Barra da Lagoa. Only one problem...there was a river seperating us and the hostel with a bridge that had been torn down to make way for a new one. A quaint little fishing town, the government paid local fisherman to ferry people across the water in tiny fishing boats. After a sketchy trip across the water we could finally set our bags down in the hostel for our (what we thought was going to be) 2 week stay. Here's a few pictures of the town and hostel including the bridge that took many days to build (we woz well naughty and crossed it before it was finished too!).

1.jpg

2.jpg

3.jpg

4.jpg

As you can see it was in such an awesome location, right next to the beach and as the hostel rented us surfboards for free then we could surf to our hearts delight.
It was so laid back at this place, the people who owned it were all really young and fun. All the other staff who worked there were all wicked aswell and so easy to get on with. The way things work in the hostel is that there is a big blackboard, and whenever you go to get a beer out of the fridge, you just have to mark a B on the board then you pay later. This was so good for us, but also very dangerous! Every night its like a competition to see how many Bs you can get on the board. We dominated. Of course.

8.jpg

B = Beer
V = Vodka
1 = Water
2 = Soft drink
F = Fags
D = Doritos

Look how tanned even Shortbread is!

We surfed every day for the first week, so we thought we would try something different. We turned up at a beach called Joaquina ready for a bit of sand boarding.

5.jpg

6.jpg

sandboarding was awesome. everyone got the hang of it pretty quickly , so we decided to have a race. everyone got involved including mona and an awesome guy called Ian. Alex pulled it out of the bag and won the race (we think it was because he is short and his mohawk cut through the wind, this definately aided his victory) which earned him a free cocktails from each of his competitors at a fun beach bar.

7.jpg

Many days of surfing, drinking and partying went by and we even managed to make it up in time for breakfast and a morning surf. Wake up time was 8am most days (this made us proud). Finally bday rolled around and everyone in the hostel was looking forward to kierans birthday. We woke up and 8am and went for our morning surf, we then came back for some breakfast. we decided that going sea kayaking would be fun so kieran, mark, paul and henry (another leg end from backpackers ) set off in their taped up kayaks ray mears style. we fought through the current of the ever flowing river and made it out into the open water. Unfortunately mark had taken on alot of water by now so we headed towards the nearest beach. After arriving at the beach we looked back to find mark and all we could see was a little head in the water towing what seemed to be a half sunken kayak behind him. when he arrived it took at least 20 mins to get all the water out, in this time kieran and henry spotted some dolphins in the distance and jumped back into their vessels and paddled out towards them. kieran used his best mating call and got within 5 metres of them, one of which jumped almost over the front of his kayak and caught a fish mid air. Awesome!
The evening festivities started( actually afternoon) around 3pm. This started with 3 shots of tequila. yummy. Such an amazing night, everyone will have good memorys. there was a bbq and birthday cake and loads of alcohol (of course).

14.jpg

15.jpg

16.jpg

17.jpg

18.jpg

19.jpg

We finally made it out of the hostel and to the club which was called el divino, kieran unfortunately didnt make it becuase of massive alcohol intake. no problems the boyz still carried on strong celebrating his birthday for him.

20.jpg

21.jpg

After the festivities of kierans birthday and a massive hangover we decided to go to a beach called joaquina for lunch with a few of our brazilian friends.

22.jpg

23.jpg

more modelling shots for the portfolio, tarts!

24.jpg

25.jpg

This is fun!!!!!

26.jpg

Here is one of us trying this liquid, some people call it beer, must be a delicacy in brazil.

27.jpg

Here is some pics of us at our local surf spot, and a zapper for the lads

28.jpg

Here's some fitty checking DaBoyz out (of course)

29.jpg

30.jpg

31.jpg

We were invited to a lunch at our friend Luanas house, where we met our friends Mel, Natalia, Gili, Juliana, and Bruna. we had a splendid meal and we all got completely trashed (of course). The fun fire extinguisher was filled with alcohol (of course)

32.jpg

33.jpg

34.jpg

35.jpg

36.jpg

Alex "badboy" Brownjohn got totally smashed and wandered off one night with some mental brazilians, the next morning he arrived tatted to the tits.

37.jpg

38.jpg

39.jpg

SORRY MUM

Kierans surfing made such an impact on the local village that they erected a massive statue of him by praia mole(the main surf beach), yessss

40.jpg

Kieran and alex decided to go for a trip to praia mole to check it out
1. for girls
2. scenery(girls)
3. more girls

41.jpg

They decided to go walking on the rocks, to get a better view of the "scenery"

42.jpg

In the picture below you see a poor little boy sitting on the sand below the rocks. This is infact Alex.

43.jpg

He decided that he would go and check out the rock pools below and jumped down off the rocks onto "soft sand" this turned out to be 'solid as a rock' sand. Alex "braindead" Brownjohn could no longer walk. He ended up in hospital the next day, and had to wait for 7 hours for the doctor to tell him that he had to pay them for some silly tablets. gutted.

Meanwhile back at the bat cave......

44.jpg

Due to short funds and big egos, mark and paul were challenged by junior the owner of the hostel to smash the record of beers drunk in 24 hours. The record was 40 so mark and paul decided to go 10 better each and hit 50 beers aka 100 between them. If doing this there would be 2 nights free at the hostel for daboyz and the beers would be free.
let the games commence, heyoooo!

67.jpg

68.jpg

This is their crowning achievement that will go down in Backpackers history (Mark wrote the 60 himself the same day until Kieran took over for the rest of it).

69.jpg

Pictures tell 1000 words. Yeh, they smashed the granny out of it.

This is another couple of random fun nights we had at the hostel. This first event was a samba night, barbecue and a live samba band. Paul 'the sleaze' Sumner got some sexy samba down with the mental chambermaid Claudia. Lucky lad!

70.jpg

71.jpg

72.jpg

73.jpg

Next on the bill was a rave night inside the hostel. The owner Junior rented some sound equipment from a 12 year old ghetto kid and we reached for the lasers all night long. Party only stopped when the armed police arrived at 11 in the morning, damn those pigs eh Andrew?! Mark and Paul were chuffed because they got a chance to don their new rave hats (good work Rach n big D!).

74.jpg

75.jpg

A cheeky little shot of Mark, Shortbread, Bart and Backpackers owner Junior (our brother from another mother).

76.jpg

A load of Junior's friends from Porto Alegre came up to Florianopolis to see him, and we all (apart from Shortbread and his bad feet) went up to Lagoa de L'oueste. We took a bus ride for an hour drinking beer on the way (of course), when we reached the destination, there was a qwirky bar filled with random messages from everyone that ate there.

80.jpg

This was followed by a drunk 2 hour trek through the jungle. Nobody really knew the way, but since when did that ever stop alcohol-fuelled morons?

77.jpg

After a long trek to the top of a hill the view was incredible.

78.jpg

79.jpg

We decided to get a pleasant group shot combining the team and the scenery. Big mouth Mark called out to everyone to get them all together whilst stepping backwards saying "Hey everyone, get together for aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh!!!!!!!" and fell through the one single missing plank in the decking. what a fool. This caused mass bruising and mass hilarity. The girls were all freaking out asking if he was ok, but the guys made him get back in the hole for a photo!

81.jpg

By the time we got to the beach, it was raining but that didnt stop bodysurfing Paul.

82.jpg

Finally a month after arriving, it was time to depart backpackers. With many friends made and sorrow in our hearts, we left the beach and headed for the long winding road towards Iguacu falls.
Anybody who stayed over 2 weeks got to put their hands on the wall.
Mark and Paul got theirs a while back, so here is Kieran's and Alex's.

83.jpg

84.jpg

The Iguacu falls

Well, this little critter is one of the 88 butterflies. One of MANY hanging around...friendly little bunch, they fly right up to you and land on you (more of that later).

85.jpg

DaBoyz...chillin' on da Brazilian side. What a view! (the waterfall looks pretty good too eh?)

86.jpg

A better shot of the falls...without our ugly mugs

87.jpg

A toucan just hanging around in a tree there.

88.jpg

89.jpg

90.jpg

91.jpg

92.jpg

We're all here in Brazil so even though it's wet and cold, we still felt the need to get our shirts off for a fun photo.

93.jpg

94.jpg

95.jpg

Whilst we were there, Mark and Paul nearly got raped by a metal man with a big hat. Luckily Alex and Kieran were at hand to shoo him off.

96.jpg

97.jpg

98.jpg

Here's us on our boat trip that took us all through the valleys and then right underneath the waterfalls. The next shot shows another boat doing what we did without Kieran getting his camera wet.

So to start off with, after Rio we went over to Buzios (an old surf town 2 hours east of Rio), it was sweet like tropicana. Here's a lickle pic to whet your whistle. Us with some cool chicks from the hostel (you know who you are Rocia and Belen!)

Had some fun nights out in Buzios despite the prices and the short time we were there.
This here is a splendid shot of us with a friendly little palm tree.

Here is another splendid shot of us with a couple of chicks with dicks. Alex went in for the kill with this one.

alex_cock.jpg

those_sumner_boyz.jpg

Went to a funky lil club called Privilege. 60 reals to get in (well expensive for here), hot chicks and crazy dance music. Mark and Paul got into the spirit of things as you can see.
As the night progressed Paul, fueled on caipirinhas and beer, decided to go for a little wander back to the pousada (2 reals on a bus back) which ended up turning into an expedition in itself. 3 hours later and R$70 out of pocket, he wasn't even back home yet. Found the closest beach and went for a beautiful walk and took some lovely shots of the sunrise (maybe it was worth it in the end?).

pauls_trip.jpg

4 days later we left Buzios and travelled over to Angra dos Reis to get the boat over to Ilha Grande. A paradise island off the coast inbetween Rio and Sao Paulo. It was so beautiful that we got Japanese style snap happy. Check yoself befo you wreck yoself...peace

This last shot is the main town that we were staying in.There's no cars on the island so you either have to get a boat around the island or walk through the jungle.

Old captain Mark with his crew Sieman stains and Roger the cabin boy went on a mystical voyage to the cave of mysticism. Then to another couple of lagoons afterwards for a bit of snorkelling for the lads.

clear_sea.jpg

abs.jpg

(We think) We've got some awesome shots of the cave and snorkelling, but they're on an underwater camera that still needs to be developed so stay tuned for them.

On the other side of the island is a perfect beach, one of the best we've ever been to. One day we went for a 2 hour trek through the jungle to get there. We managed to cut it down to 1 1/2 hours with some extreme trail runing. The water is perfectly clear like a swimming pool and the sand is so clean that it squeeks underfoot like snow. It's also a good surfing beach so we could get our surf on.

alex_cathi..e_waves.jpg

So after a hard day on the waves alex decided that he would continue his exercise program with a bit of capoiera on the pier with some random locals.

shortbread..ing_new.jpg

The nightlife on Ilha Grande was limited, but we managed to find the party, or it managed to find us morelike!

beer_tower.jpg

The one club on the island is called Blue Banana and it's actually better than it sounds (no it's not a gay club).
We ended up extending our stay from 7 days to 10 because we enjoyed it so much.

3some.jpg

Paul is also gaining some skills out on this expedition, look at him sleazin every hot chick up on de island ;)

paul_loves_the_mole.jpg

sleaze_2.jpg

After all the fun in de sun at Ilha Grande we packed our bags and set off for Sao Paulo (the largest city in South America). We hear mixed reviews about it, mostly that it was very dangerous! This did not phase the Farnham massive tho, we just did a few extra push ups to insure the guns were still locked n loaded and ready to go.ยด
Sao Paulo was massive but we soon found that there was very little to do during the day, we ended up going to some snake farm which would have been crap even if it was a school trip. But hay here is one lame pic of the snake on this trip!

PROBABLY_T..IP_EVER.jpg

We are currently in Florianopolis (Alex had to spell that for me!) which is cool! it is a surf town with quality beaches and so many hot birds. We havent taken any pics at the moment but we are slowly working on that. its hard because we are such pro surfers now we cant carry a camera all the time. WE LOVE THE WATER. If there are any requests for pictures post them in a comment and we will see what we can do (no task is to taxing for the chaos crew, best suggestion wins a secret picture prize. so post your email with the comment)

We've been to copious amounts of street parties, drunk copious amounts of street beer (still 1 real) and caipirinhas (which Alex is now a pro at making), and samba'd with feet of lightning. The street parties appear all over the city, Ipanema, Copacabana, Botafogo, Centro, Leblon, Lapa the list goes on! There aint no party like an S Club party!
We've captured some stills of what the hell went on in the mayhem that is known as 'Carnival in Rio de Janeiro'. 'Nuff said.

We went to the Sambadrome one night arranged by the hostel to witness the carnival parade (On the way to which Mark got pickpocketed by a street urchin so lost his ticket and money...tosser). Cant be bothered to explain the ins and outs of it, so read up or shut up.

Kieran wouldn't shut up about wanting to see monkeys, so we took him on a day trip to Sugarloaf.

S8000325.jpg

There was no sign of monkeys on the first mountain, accept for the lesser spotted 'Shortius Breadius'. We identified this beast by its red hair and aggressive nature.

S8000374.jpg

Upon reaching Sugarloaf, we were rewarded with amazing views and Kieran's first official monkey sighting.

After a tearful farewell from our amigos at Tupiniquim hostel, we left for a 3 hour bus ride to Buzios. We've been graced with beautiful beaches, Buzios babes, booze and burns of the sun variety. BOOYA!

Stay tuned for more pics kids

Rio update tag:travellerspoint.com,2007-02-12:/blog/?domain=daboyz&thisblog_entryid=4&entryid=44297 2007-05-12T22:52:59Z 2007-02-12T19:33:59Z Well, we've been here for nearly 10 days now and we're starting to forget all the stuff we've been doing. We've ticked a few of the boxes beach wise - Copacabana was the first one we sampled...we left the hostel bright eyed and bushy tailed feeling innocent - this was to change shortly after when we got to Copacabana tunnel and saw a bus being held up by a favela kid. Policia pulled up infront of the bus and the porker got out of his paddy wagon and shot the sucker down BLUCKA! Yessss, our first Rio shooting. It's just as everyone says here! The people infront of us started running down the tunnel, but we weren't phased, we held our ground and strolled on. On the way back we heard more gunfire at the same place but in the favelas above. Awesome. We need either rapid response Andrew or gypsey fighting bare knuckle boxing champion 'Big jaw breaking John' to protect us.
We still had fun at the beach though.

Loadsa garotas (girls in Portuguese) in thongs for us to perve over.

While we're on the subject of shootings in favelas, we attended 2 splendid favela funk parties. Quality music, 1 real a beer (25p), and loose moraled ladies. Both times someone has been successful, but the first time we we're targets of date rape. You boys would love it here, total role reversal...girls chase the guys and its a totally normal thing to get with more than 1 girl in a night!
One morning we actually got up before 11 oclock and went to a beautiful waterfall. Paul 'sick note' Sumner had to miss out on this because of a mentally swollen ankle after a mozzy bite. Nothing needs to be said about the scenery, check the photo.

Although it was no easy route to take up there, you have to climb roots and rocks through the jungle - very Indiana Jones.

After the successes that day, we were given the challenge of walking up to Christ the Redeemer. Challenge accepted! Nothing the Frensham/Farnham massive can't handle.
We got to the bottom of the hill and we were approached by loads of people doing tours up to the top, but we declined saying we can easily make it. All of them thought we were crazy saying it was too far, too steep and too dangerous (2 favelas on the way up). We informed them of our Cannons training then continued up the hill...5 minutes later, sweating buckets, we decided it was far too far, steep and dangerous. The incline on the treadmills at Cannons doesn't go anywhere near the angle we were walking up. With pie in our faces, we walked past all of the lads offering lifts on their motorbikes, taxis etc. We popped in a car and went up to the top by sunset and got some great shots.

We spent the day at the beach in Ipanema, then at 5 strolled up to join a carnival rehearsal in the streets. More beers for the boyz. Lapa in the evening, loads of partying, drinking, chasing girls etc

Leaving the hostel in 2 days and going to get an apartment off Copacabana for cheaper than the hostel were staying in. Will be good to have our own space for a bit for getting laid. hahaha (but seriously).
Keep comments coming, always good to hear from you lot in snowy England.
All our love

Heading towards our hostel it was a really sad and stiking experience. We drove through towns of houses made of mud, cardboard and anything they could find.
We arrived at the hostel after a short walk from the bus and were welcomed by a friendly guy called Greg. We got to our room and found we had a room with 2 double beds, awsome everyone thought we were bum boys already. He gave us a quick tour of the place and showed us all of the facilities...climbing wall, table tennis, computers, (ghetto) pool table (Brownjohn/Hayler are 1 up on the Sumner combo). Beers are cheap too, about 70p for a 1 and 1/2 pint bottle. They were suprised when we asked for 4 of these...they clearly dont know us well enough yet!
We decided to go straight out down to the beach, it was hot out, 34 degrees C (This trip had casualties, we all got burnt to a frazzle! - see pics)

It was awesome, white sand, hot sun and beautiful brazilian girls, what more could you ask for? Well how about the town your staying in being situated between two mountains, Sugarloaf and the mountain with Christ the Redeemer on (We can see this from our window).

DSC00086.jpg

DSC00087.jpg

Our first night out was a shambles, we tried lots of clubs and they were either empty, 100 reials entry, or you needed jeans on, not forgetting a gay club either. After cramming 5 of us in a taxi, we got out and a bunch of prostitutes were all over us, pulling their shorts down, showing their thongs etc...it was tough to stop Paul from going over and getting a piece of that sweet sweet candy...BAM. We ended up in a bar called Shanannigans, and yes it was an Irish bar. It was okay and we stayed there for a couple of drinks (Including a Caiprinha, the local brazilian drink...strong as a mother fucker). We were all knackered after the flight so headed back just before 3.
Bring on Sunday - possibly a funk party in the favelas!
